Alentejo Roadshow – Carvalhal Wetlands 1st General Stakeholders Meeting: Introduction to Wetlands Contracts and Presentation of the Pilot Area

In Portugal, the pilot area selected was Carvalhal Wetlands, in Alentejo Region, with the goal of engaging local stakeholders, building capacity and formalising commitments for the implementation of Wetlands Contracts. The first seminar of the Roadshow was organised in two sessions that took place on 12th February in Évora and on 20th February in Carvalhal, involving participants from national, regional and local public bodies, academia and local economic operators (e.g. farmers, land owners).

These first two sessions were focused on the presentation of the project objectives and activities and on the introduction to the Wetlands Contracts, which are to be based on participatory work viewing to promote effective governance in wetland areas and to develop more sustainable local practices. The meetings were very fruitful and a second seminar is planned to take place by the end of March or early April, addressing collective mapping and participatory SWOT analysis of the pilot area.
