14/10/2025

WE GO COOP SYMPOSIUM was held at the Faculty of Marine and Environmental Sciences of the University of Cádiz, in Puerto Real. Organized by the Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FAMP), the event brought together local governments, environmental experts, NGOs, and international institutions to reflect on the future of wetlands.

Under the theme “+Biodiversity: for Wetlands in Andalusia +Governance”, the symposium focused on collaborative governance as a key strategy for wetland conservation. Over two days, participants shared experiences, challenges, and best practices in managing protected areas, highlighting the ecological and socio-economic value of wetlands.

The program included presentations from municipalities across Andalusia, showcasing real examples of local governance models. These ranged from wetland restoration projects to innovative public policies and community-led initiatives. The event also featured expert panels on environmental governance, institutional support, and cooperation.

One of the highlights was the technical visit to a restored wetland, which allowed participants to see firsthand the impact of integrated management approaches. The symposium concluded with the presentation of two strategic tools: a draft Community of Practice and a Memorandum of Commitment, designed to foster long-term collaboration among stakeholders across the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Overall, the symposium fulfilled its goal of strengthening multi-level cooperation, promoting participatory governance, and laying the groundwork for future joint actions to protect and enhance wetland ecosystems
