As part of the WE GO COOP project and in preparation for the upcoming Symposium, ANATOLIKI S.A. organized a meeting with the Municipality of Delta on September 18, 2025. The Project Manager, Ms. Naya Tselepi, met with the Mayor, Ms. Gerakina Bispina, the Deputy Mayors Mr. Konstantinos Vervitis and Mr. Dimitrios Kamanas, the Secretary General, Mr. Thanasis Pazarloglou, and the Financial Affairs Advisor, Ms. Maria Anagnostou. Ms. Tselepi presented the WE GO COOP project and its predecessor, TUNE-UP, under which the former Mayor had signed in 2021 a Memorandum of Understanding to promote a Local Contract in the Axios Delta Marine Protected Area (MPA). The discussion focused on the challenges of the Axios Delta wetland and on exploring opportunities for further cooperation between ANATOLIKI and the Municipality.
A week later, on September 26, 2025, ANATOLIKI S.A. organized the Symposium “Wetland Contracts & Community of Practice” at Porto Palace, Thessaloniki, gathering stakeholders from the Region of Central Macedonia and the Axios Delta wetland. The event aimed to build on the two Memoranda of Understanding signed in 2021 under the EURO-MED project TUNE-UP and to strengthen dialogue and collaboration among local actors.
Participants included representatives from NECCA, the Region of Central Macedonia, the Municipality of Delta, the Fisheries Department, EYATH, the National Centre for Habitats and Wetlands, the NGO i-Sea, universities, and technical companies. The Symposium opened with greetings from ANATOLIKI’s General Director, Ms. Vaso Papadopoulou, and the Mayor of Delta, Ms. Bispina. Ms. Tselepi then presented the WE GO COOP project and the concept of Wetland Contracts and the Community of Practice, followed by Dr. Lydia Albanou (NECCA), who spoke about wetland governance. Workshops followed to map the Axios Delta area, identify governance challenges, and develop proposals addressing climate change, environmental degradation, and pollution.
The Symposium marked another step toward collaborative governance and effective local action for the conservation of the Axios Delta.
